Emir understands this first hand – just a few months ago, he had found himself on the streets, his physical health failing alongside his spirit. Medication, once a routine, was a forgotten memory. He felt adrift with no anchor in sight.

Thankfully for Emir, a lifeline appeared in the form of a referral to the Greenwich Mental Health Hub.

Opening up wasn't easy at first. "It was hard to even form words. I was in a really bad place – I couldn’t even speak without breaking down”

Elizabeth, Emir’s mental health advisor, with her steady support and kind encouragement, helped Emir open up. Together, they tackled the challenge of finding him a place to live. Securing a flat was a win, but it came with a new hurdle: the flat was completely empty.

"Elizabeth became my rock. She listened to what I needed and was there for me every step of the way. She showed me that I had more strength than I thought."

That's when Elizabeth became a superhero of sorts. She swung into action, contacting local charities to turn Emir's bare flat into a home. One phone call at a time, Elizabeth filled the space with the essentials – a cooker, a fridge, cutlery, and even bedding for a restful night's sleep.

"Without that help," Emir says, "I would've been staring at four empty walls, probably feeling just as lost”

But Emir is no longer lost. Elizabeth, with her unwavering support, helped him find the light again. Now, Emir is looking to the future, not with fear, but with a newfound appreciation for each day. “It's unbelievable what can happen in such a short space of time, just over a month ago, I was on the streets, lost and alone. Now, here I am, I've got a roof over my head, I'm back on my medication and I'm taking care of myself. I'm so grateful for this second chance, and I'm going to make the most of it."
