Anxiety

What is Anxiety?

Anxiety is what we feel when we are worried, tense or afraid – particularly about things that are about to happen, or that we think could happen in the future.

Anxiety is a natural human response when we feel that we are under threat. It can be experienced through our thoughts, feelings and physical sensations.

You can find out more about anxiety, and get advice and support from the NHS or South East London Mind. Guidance and information for healthcare and other professionals can be found from the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence.

“For me, anxiety feels as if everyone in the world is waiting for me to trip up, so that they can laugh at me. It makes me feel nervous and unsure whether the next step I take is the best way forward".

Positive stories

  •  "I just wasn't sure what the point was anymore"

Emir understands this first hand – just a few months ago, he had found himself on the streets, his physical health failing alongside his spirit. Medication, once a routine, was a forgotten memory. He felt adrift with no anchor in sight.
