Depression

What is Depression?

Depression is a low mood that lasts for a long time and affects your everyday life.

In its mildest form, depression can mean just being in low spirits. It doesn't stop you from leading your normal life but makes everything harder and less worthwhile. At its most severe, depression can be life-threatening because it can make you feel suicidal.

You can find out more about depression, and get advice and support from the NHS or South East London Mind. Guidance and information for healthcare and other professionals can be found from the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence.

“It truly was the right support at the right time"

Leo struggled with his mental health since childhood. "What made it worse was that my family didn’t understand – they're very old fashioned. They think that talking about your emotions is weak”.
